Man, I love Christmas! Check out the sweet Indian elephant that my little sis picked up for me when she was in India. Beautiful, eh? We also had a serious cookie-decorating session on Christmas Eve. So much artistry was accomplished...
Supplies.
Paul Conn wanted to join in the festivities!
I made a C for me. :)
Black Santa and his blue suede shoes.
Our 4 favorites: Big Bird, Michael Jackson, Black Santa, and Paul Conn.
My sibs enjoying the beauty of our Christmasy creations!
Platter o' deliciousness.
And then, at 6:30 this morning, my siblings and I dashed to open our stockings, and the festivities began!
My new Christmas slippers... heinous, but wonderful at the same time!
My Christmas mornin' brew. Ahhhh.
My favorite gift of the day-- new kicks! Heck yes!
And now, a Christmas ham dinner and many cookies later, I'm just lounging around in my comfy clothes reflecting on this Christmas. It was a good one. A modest one, but a good one. God is good, folks, and he's taking care of me.
My sleep schedule is completely out of whack, what with keeping completely different hours between Lee and Nashville, and having bronchitis for the past week or so and thus lazing around.
So I'm awake at almost 3:30 in the morning watching Nacho Libre on TV.
...Dang it.
I guess it's a good thing I have very little to do until January. 'Cause this is ridiculous!
So maybe it's true That I can't live without you And maybe two is better than one There's so much time To figure out the rest of my life And you've already got me coming undone And I'm thinking two is better than one
Well, hey, y'alls! So, I've been a bit busy of late. Doing what, you ask? Well, that's what this blog is about!
Urban Outreach My roomie and I spent this past weekend working at a cool homeless shelter in Knoxville called Angelic Ministries. It isn't a shelter so much as it is a mobilizing center-- instead of just feeding, clothing and taking in people from the street, Angelic focuses more on giving people the skills needed to keep themselves off the streets. How, you say? A screening process to determine which applicants actually want to turn their life around, and a sort of work study program (employing them in the warehouse in exchange for room and board and help with other issues like legal problems, rehab, and other issues). So, when we worked in their warehouse all weekend sorting clothes, linens, appliances, knicknacks, and dishes, we worked alongside men who had proactively made the decision to get back on track. Not an approach I've seen in very many ministries, but definitely the correct one.
The Fold I'm also starting an exciting chapter in my work with music and artists-- working on public relations stuff for now-independent former Tooth & Nail band The Fold. It's super cool because they're cool. Duh. Mostly, though, I really love helping an artist whose music I believe in. Cheesy, I know. But it's true. They make awesome alternative rock. Seriously good melody and a whole lotta spunk combined! They're also funny, which this video will prove to you. It's their parody of "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus. It's called "Every Band In The USA," and it's hilarious! Check it out:
See what I mean? Welp, that's my life currently. I hope you enjoyed this lil' glimpse into the craziness!
My friend Mike left his Facebook chat up and was idle. I decided to have some fun with him. Feel free to try this on any friends of the opposite sex who are idle on Facebook chat.
But instead of focusing on finishing up my four pages on The Four Sources For Christian Theological Reflection, I felt I needed to share with y'all the things that are aiding in my procrastination (and thus procrastinate further). These puppies are distractin' me (and are also links, so click away):
And we thought good ol' Lee University was a little over the top! It's endlessly entertaining how ridiculous the "expectations" at Bob Jones get. The "premier fundamentalist Christian university in the US" forbids women wearing pants, jeans on anyone, any and all alcohol usage (since Jesus didn't drink wine... oh, wait), dancing (apparently not one of David's favorite pastimes after all), rock music, going to the movies, and worst of all, the Satan-music that is Michael W. Smith, Stephen Curtis Chapman and the WOW Worship compilations. I'm so glad someone's taking a stand...
These two guys from CollegeHumor have been an endless source of entertainment for me and my hallmates since our first semester in college. My favorites? "Sneaky," "Scared," "Rapping," and "Monopoly." Subscribe to their podcast on iTunes for even more goodness!
